Jury Film Award - SHIMONI - directed by Angela Wanjiku Wamai

After his release from prison, Geoffrey is forced to return to SHIMONI, the rural area of Kenya where he spent his childhood, as part of his reintegration into society. Formerly an English teacher, Geoffrey has never done any physical work, but since his release he is banned from teaching. Since then, he has been looking after the farm of a church, until one day an encounter with his past demons throws him back. In this feature film, director Angela Wanjiku Wamai stages the devastating power of silence to encourage reflection on the lasting consequences of unspoken trauma.
