This complex film essay began five years ago at the Venice Biennale: as a video installation that unfolded the life experiences of Black people in the past, present, and future in a kaleidoscope of diverse image formats—from the perspective of a Black news channel. Now Khalil Joseph, known as the music video director for Beyoncé and Kendrick Lamar, has expanded his project into a film and added Afrofuturistic scenes. Like samples in hip-hop, political speeches and other archive footage meet social media clips and memes – across 21 tracks.
