Biografie Djamel Ouahab

The director who was born in Algeria but currently lives in France shot his first feature film in 1998, “Cour interdite”, which tells the story of a 20-year-old immigrant in Paris, who by selling drugs aims to give his brother a better chance in life. Since then Djamal Ouahab has worked as an actor on several French feature films, and as a lecturer at film and theatre schools, including “La Femis” and “Florent” in Paris. He is an active employee of “Agence du Cinéma Indépendant” (ACID), an organisation that promotes the production and distribution of independent films. With his multi-award-winning 2009 documentary “Gerboise bleue” about the forgotten French nuclear tests in the Algerian Sahara in the 1960s, he sparked a wide public debate in France concerning compensation payments for those who suffered radiation effects from the blasts, a campaign which had been largely ignored until now.
