Biografie Nancy Mac Granaky-Quaye


“Author, director, and image mixer” are the job titles of Nancy Mac Granaky-Quaye, who for nearly two decades worked in various aspects of filmmaking. After studying communication science, psychology, and German in Essen she worked from 1998 to 2001 as an intern in the field of studio direction in Dusseldorf followed by various training courses including image mixing, film directing, visual effects, and a screenwriting workshop, at the International Film School (ifs) in Cologne. Since 2006, she has shot nine short films and documentaries that were not only shown in Germany (at “Berlinale Talents”, for example), but also at festivals in Poland, Ethiopia, and the US. As part of the African Diaspora Cinema series, she presents her 2008 short feature BEENTO, about her
Ghanaian-German parents. It is her most successful production, having run in Addis Ababa, Princeton and at the Max Ophüls Film Festival in Saarbrücken.
