Dyana Gaye was born in 1975 in Paris, the daughter of Senegalese immigrants. She studied film at the university of Paris & St. Denis. In 1999, thanks to a Louis Lumière-Villa Medici scholarship, she directed her first short fiction UNE FEMME POUR SOULEYMANE. In 2004, she participated in the PARIS LA MÉTISSE compilation project with her short film J’AI DEUX AMOURS. Her short film DEWENETI (2006) has been often shown in France and internationally, won the 2007 Jury Prize at the International Short Film Festival in Clermont-Ferrand and was nominated in 2008 as one of five productions in the “Best Short Film” category for the French César film awards. In 2009, she directed UN TRANSPORT EN COMMUN. DES ÉTOILES (UNDER THE STARRY SKY) is her first feature film and premiered in 2013 at the festival in Toronto. She is currently writing the screenplay for her second feature film, which is titled ALBUM. Dyana Gaye first appeared as a guest at the “Out of Europe”
African Film Festival in 2002. Since then, FilmInitiativ has shown several of her short films.
