Title:

SAMBA DE FASCISMO - BRASILIEN AUF DEM WEG IN DIE DIKTATUR?

Film series:17. Afrika Film Festival

Storyline

Brazil is home to the world’s largest African diaspora. More than half of Brazilians are of African ancestry. In recent years
a remarkably creative black film scene has emerged in Brazil. But since the far-right President Jair Bolsonaro took office
at the start of 2019, it’s not only their livelihoods that are under threat, but democracy as a whole. This is the subject
matter of “Samba de Fascismo”, a sketch by Myriam “Mymmi” Chebabi, the Brazilian president of Cologne’s Immisitzung
(a carnival variety show that promotes the integration of immigrants). Filmmaker Gabriel Martins, writer Carola Saavedra
and actress and theatre director Barbara Santos will be in attendance to inform guests about the current situation in their country.
