Storyline

The well-known Senegalese author and filmmaker Ousmane Sembène also shot his first feature film LA NOIRE DE… (BLACK GIRL) in France. It tells the harrowing story of Diouana, who’s brought back to France from colonial Senegal by her French employer to work as a nanny. While she’s initially looking forward to life on the French Mediterranean, once there, she quickly realises what it means to be a black servant in Europe. The black-and-white drama won Sembène the “Prix Jean Vigo” at the Cannes Film Festival as well as numerous other
awards.
